milkglass

My florist and I had been trying to come up with some unique containers for my centerpieces when I remembered my mom's collection of milkglass. Her mother, my Grammy, actually started the collection and since her passing my mom and my aunt have slowly begun to inherit the collection. Here is the whole collection and some of her larger pieces.

How well do you think they would work for flowers? We need to start buying more- which should be a lot of fun- and I am wondering which size and style would work best.

  1. Oh, I think that would be so pretty!!
I'm "stealing" a similar idea from someone on Weddingbee (sorry, can't remember who...) - I'm using clear vintage pressed glassware in my centerpieces. My grandmother and mother collected that, so like you, I already have pieces I can use.
I'm really excited about it, and I think it'll be unique and special.

  2. These would be amazing for center pieces! I love the middle and right ones in the bottom picture. Hydrangeas or lilacs would look great in them (just the first thought that came to mind).

  3. I love the milkglass - I think it will be beautiful! I would recommend checking out thrift and second-hand stores, and avoiding antique stores (better pricing)!

  4. i'm using milk glass for my wedding july 19th - i have about 30 pieces so far. when is your wedding? i'd be happy to sell you some after my wedding. i'm getting married in michigan but could have a friend bring them to chicago if you want them. let me know if you're interested and i can send you photos. I have about 20 vases that are taller - from 8" - 14" - to use as the main centerpiece.

  5. i'm doing the exact thing! love that my two long tables will have different vases and arrangements running the length. i'm not a fan of symmetry so decided on milk glass with flowers, hurricanes with pillar candles, and smaller milk glass pieces with beautiful artisinal candies to run the length! have fun!

  7. I know that it is becoming a kind of a "blogging bride" trend, but I am so going to use milk glass for my containers. I am insanely jealous of this collection! Your centerpieces will be so dainty and pretty. As I hope mine will be.

It's time to do some antiquing...
