pretty little pleats

I was logging into Bloomingdales last night to do a little registry snooping (shhh!) and I got distracted by these-

Even though I finally settled on a shoe... I can still look- can't I?

hubba hubba!

My friend Melissa and her new husband Dan were married a few weeks ago at the gorgeous American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin. I forgot my camera (d'oh!) and so have been anxiously awaiting their professional pictures to share with you all. The wedding was very classy, very cool and a whole lot of fun. Their slideshow is still not available, but Melissa mentioned that one of their photos is a finalist in the Wedding Photography Directory Summer Contest. Check this out:

Pretty sexy, huh? I can't wait to see the rest! I would definitely recommend checking out the rest of the entries for some wedding inspiration. Vote for Melissa when you get a moment, won't you? :)

girls night out!

I have a fun night ahead of me! First stop, a Red Cross meeting to discuss a new event. This committee is totally fired up, so I have a feeling that it will be the perfect thing to distract me from wedding planning and my to-do lists.

I will be sneaking out a little early to head over to the River North Paper Source for the Girls Night Out Event. I plan on meeting Tina from With This Ring, I Thee Obsess and (I think) Elizabeth from Elizabeth Anne Designs. Tina reminded me last night (THANK YOU!) that attendees receive a 10% discount off all PS purchases. Just wait until they see my list...

Will anyone else be attending tonight, maybe at another location?

perfect for rehearsing, and drinking

I bought a lovely dress for the rehearsal dinner today.
I can't wait to bowl up a storm in it. I also picked up our toasting flutes. My mom and I had been looking for vintage champagne glasses- the sherbet cup style, rather than the flute- but we got frustrated and threw in the towel. These have a lovely vintage flair and I will be happy to drink champagne out of it throughout our wedding night.

Happy Wedding Day, Tara!

Shoot! I meant to post this earlier, but Happy Wedding Day, Tara! I hope that it was everything that you were hoping it to be and more. I can't wait to hear all about it :)

...sneaking back in...

The wedding craziness hit hard last week, rendering me unable to focus my thoughts into a tiny little blog post. We have moved in with my parents as we await the completion of our new home. Although my parents are wonderful, it has been a struggle trying to get organized in my old bedroom/their garage without taking over half the house. We have neither closed on our last condo nor the new home due to the buyers of our condo being total buttheads. I can't even begin to tell you how stressful this has been. We are 22 days out from when we were supposed to close. The market sucks and we can't do much about it, although our realtor just called to say that someone else wants to make an offer. Even if its a good offer, that still means delaying our close another 15 or more days. Don't these people know that I am getting married in less than six weeks!?! I need to start chanting my honeymoon mantra: Maui, Maui, Maui.... Ahh... better already.

Other than that, my invites are out, I have become obsessed with the previously neglected place card table, I have finalized my menu, moved our honeymoon up to right after the wedding, bought some gifts and am generally feeling back on track. My sister planned a wonderful bachelorette party for next weekend. My mom put together the most adorable western-themed shower invitation (more 'splaining on that, too!) I have, literally, 10 half-written posts in the hopper. They will be coming your way this week!

In the meantime, here is a picture of my mom's wedding-crap-covered dining room table. Sorry, mom! :)

bridal shower brunch invites!

I just wanted to show off the invites that I made for my shower last weekend. Yes, I made my own invites, but only at the hostess' request! She knew that I was looking for practice and it was a great opportunity.

I hated to do the self-protection blur because of how cute the fonts looked together :( Other than that, what do you think? Do any legit graphic designers out there have feedback for me?

You might want to click on it and make it a little bigger for the full effect.

death by mamma mia

A few months ago, I received a PR email from whoever is working on the new Mamma Mia movie, asking me to discuss it on my blog. I threw up a little in my mouth at that moment. I thought that I could just delete the email and move on, but no. The commercials are on every five minutes. The ads are on a million sites. And they all play that damn song. I woke up this morning with it running through my head and it makes me want to cry.

There are a few musical groups/performers who really drive me nuts. 99% of country music, anything in a duet and musical theater are some general dislikes. More specifically, the top three offenders are Radiohead, Chicago with Peter Cetera and ABBA. ABBA and musical theater combine catostrophically in Mamma Mia. I was invited to go see the musical with some coworkers a few years ago. As they sang along enthusiastically, I slumped down in my seat. The songs haunted me for days.

The biggest upset is that Colin Firth, my Mr. Darcy, is in it. Have you ever seen the Thomas Crown Affair? Because it is amazing and it features fellow Mamma Mia star Pierce Brosnan. Julie Walter (aka Mrs. Weasley) and Christine Baranski! Fricking Meryl Streep! I also loved the lead, Amanda Seyfried, who played one of the Mean Girls. I keep thinking that I actually might want to see it. Ugh. Maybe I should just wait for the DVD and fast forward through all the songs. Except for this one- hubba hubba!

my invites are coming TODAY!

After months of intense labor (mostly not on my part!), the day has arrived.

There was a little shipping hiccup due to our move and my multiple addresses. My little friends went out for delivery and were then rerouted back to a shipping center as I obsessively tracked their whereabouts. It was so hard to see "out for delivery" knowing that they were, in fact, not.

I had decided awhile ago that I was going to teach myself calligraphy. I bought a book off of Tina
a few months ago and I have been playing around with it here and there. I was up late last night and early this morning tracing letters. Its game time! We'll see how long it takes me to give up and just print the envelopes using one of my shiny new fonts.

vintage blue shoe clips

I have been unable to find a pair of blue shoes that I love, so I am falling back on gold. I decided that, based on the shape of the front strap, I could add some blue shoe clips to fancy them up. Shoe clips are hard to come by, but clip on earrings (also sold in pairs!) are not. Here are a few beauties that I have found on eBay and Etsy.

Although these aren't blue, it might be fun to tie in the milkglass centerpieces.

Wouldn't these be hilarious?!

Has anyone else used or heard of clip on earrings as shoe clips? I am worried that they might be uncomfortable or fall off. I might have to do a test run with a cheaper pair before the wedding.

happy fourth!

Jake and I are on a much needed holiday to his family's lake home in Michigan. We are going to spend the day relaxing on the porch, drinking margaritas and going on slow boat cruises. I hope you all have an equally wonderful fourth!

harumph

My invitations are printed (eeeek!). They are resting in New York for a moment, awaiting their envelopes to join them on Wednesday. I just found out that overnight shipping would cost the same amount as a round trip plane ticket to Manhattan, so I will be going UPS ground for $17. That makes me so sad- I want them now!

I can't show them off until the guests get them, but here is a little teeny sneak peek, courtesy of the enormously talented Margot at Atelier Isabey.
